Be a "Certificated Prospector"
Based on a very successful membership design out of Olympia, Washington, members will be invited to submit names of prospective candidates. The SR office will prepare a very attractive certificate and an accompanying letter of invitation to the Spokane Scottish Rite. These will be available for the member to pick up at the office within two business days. The member will then personally present the certificate package to the prospect. Once the signed certificate and fees are returned to the office, we have a prospect to be voted on and the member becomes a "Certificated Prospector!"
The Spokane Progressive Degrees
Degree work begins immediately after the application is received. A 4th degree team is notified and mobilized. The candidate then moves through a series of (Master Craftsman) seminars of each and every degree. One hour minimum will be allocated for each degree. These seminars will be conducted over several days and weeks. Once the candidate sees the 14th degree, he is eligible to come to SR stated meetings. He is encouraged to become involved as soon as possible. The degree seminars may pause for a time at the 18th degree if more join in the interim. This will allow the others to catch up before all then continue with the remaining degrees and seminars.
The following schedule has been suggested for implementation of this program.
Thursday, February 11 -- Membership vote on proposal
Friday, February 12 -- First Certificates available for pick-up at office

Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.s)
Q1: What happened to all the photos on the web site?
A: Some Companions and guests do not have high-speed internet connections. The page loads much faster without graphics, so we keep them to a minimum. Not true with all the links.
Q2: How can I see what links are included on this site?
A: Simply "park" your mouse over any underlined word. It will tell you where you are headed if you decide to click on it.
Q3: How much does a website like this cost?
A: The price is right -- it is free. You can do the same thing. Just follow this link.
Q4: How is it possible to integrate Masonic groups into a shared activity?
A: We have been trying to do this lately. Take a look at the 2009 Spokane Feast of Tishri. (You may need a fast internet connection.)
Q5: How can I submit questions or suggestions to this site?
A: Just follow the link to "Contact Host."

Great News!
Maggie Crabtree Joins the MTA Team
Maggie Crabtree, former public relations coordinator for the Spokane Shrine Hospital, was introduced to the Masonic Temple Association Executive Board by CEO Carton Oaks on Monday, June 14. Maggie brings with her a wide array of experiences in the fundraising arena for non-profits. Part of her mission will be to continue to foster and develop community laisons that will put the Spokane Masonic Center "on the map" for availability of event and convention rentals.
Maggie is not stranger to the Masonic world. She has studied the background of the Masonic family, their relationship to the Spokane Masonic Center and Shrine Hospital, and knows about their needs and strengths. She is familiarizing herself with the grants, grant process, and "Paver Project" as well as getting acquainted with the individuals involved in the residential Masonic bodies that meet regularly in the Spokane Masonic Center. She is available for presentations to both internal and external groups, and is already working with an executive committee to plan large-scale events for this Fall.
For more information about Maggie, see her website at http://crabbytrees.com/public_relations.html.
Welcome Maggie!
Get on the Ball!
The El Katif & Scottish Rite Charities combined Golf Tournament NEEDS GOLFERS!! Ask your friends, neighbors, business associates, wives (and even your enemies) to sign up for an afternoon of golf. Proceeds from the tournament go to our wonderful philanthropies: the RiteCare Spokane Language Center and the Spokane Shrine Hospital Transportation/Spine Hardware Fund. Thank you for your helping us get the word out about this tournament. It is open to the public and we would love to fill up the tee times with 144 golfers!!
The tournament will be on Saturday, June 19th @ Wandermere Golf Course with a 1:00pm shotgun start. See attachments for the NEWLY REVISED entry form and rules sheet. If you have trouble opening the attachments, please call Linda at the Scottish Rite Office @ (509) 624-5491 and she will see that you get them. Thank you!

A Letter from the Secretary
The year for the Valley of Spokane Scottish Rite is beginning and we are redefining the way we do business. A wise man once said, "Don't audit life - show up and make the best of it now. There are miracles waiting everywhere."
At the last Execcutive Committee meeting held on January 16, 2010, the heads of the lines decided on the following:
1. Starting at the February stated meeting, we will start a new membership program. This program is patterned after a similar program that the Valley of Olympia began about a year ago.
In the stated meeting, a Scottish Rite Brother, having been advised in advance, can nominate a brother from a Masonic Lodge whom he feels will make a good member of the Valley of Spokane Scottish Rite. The Brethren present will vote on the nominee to accept him as a member.
After the brother is nominated and voted upon, the Secretary will process a Membership Certificate, signed by himself and the heads of the lines. The Secretary will also provide a letter explaining the process. The Scottish Rite Brother will then deliver the certificate and letter along with a petition to join the Scottish Rite to the nominee, and explain to him what the Scottish Rite is. After the petition is completed and a check is obtained, the Scottish Rite Brother will deliver the petition to the Scottish Rite Office where it will be re-voted on by the Executive Committee, resulting in a new candidate.
2. After the candidates have been selected, it is time to start their degree work. This year we will be starting the new Progressive Degree program -- a new way we communicate our degrees. We will start on Saturday, February 20th at 8:30am with an education class on the history of the Scottish Rite. Degree work will commence with the 4the degree on Saturday, February 27th at 8:30am.
After the 4th Degree, communication (in seminar form) of the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Degrees will beign on Saturday, March 6th, starting at 8:30am. This degree program will continue through September. (Note: Please refer to the complete calendar schedule of the Progressive Degrees on the left-hand side of this screen.)
Included in the initiation fee will be a copy of the Master Craftsman I Progrm and a current edition of the "Bridge to Light." These two books will be used to communicate all degrees except the 5 mandatory degrees.
The complete program dates will appear on BOTH Valley of Spokane websites.
John C. Wyman, 32 KCCH
Secretary, Valley of Spokane
Do You Speak Blogish?
"A blog (a contraction of the term "web log") is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog." - Wikipedia
This may well describe what we have here. And as with any other blog, be sure you check back daily to find what is going on, how things are progressing and to get the latest calendar updates and additions. As time goes on, we will evolve and develop as needed with your help. This will be particularly helpful as we move to a bi-monthly Bulletin format.
If you or your committee or team have something to announce, just let us know. You can do this quickly by selcting the "Contact the Host" option at the top of the page.
Degree Seminars
As you can see from the Degree Seminar schedule, most have been set up on Saturday mornings and on Wednesday evenings. In this effort to coordinate with other Masonic meetings, the impact of this schedule should be minimal. If your organization finds that there is a specific and important conflict, please let the office know so that the seminar in question can be moved to another day. Remember that there will be different individuals who will be going to different seminars. If this plan proves too difficult to manage, we will change it. Also please remember that all Perfect Elus are invited!
Parking Lot Confusion
A minor error in the Google system reports our parking lot as being one block farther west than it actually is. Notification has been sent to Google and should be repaired shortly.
The Spokane Master Craftsman Program is moving along and we will have new information very soon.
Be sure to check back frequently for current happennings
